BACKGROUND CHECKS

There are 2 types of background checks required in California:

All Little League volunteers, including administrators, coaches, umpires, and league volunteers (concessions, team parent, etc.) must complete an ANNUAL background check, as required by Little League International's Child Protection Policy. SMLL uses J.D. Palatine (JDP) for these background checks. These background checks need to be completed again every Spring season but carry through to Fall for those who continue to volunteer.

Please email volunteers@serramesalittleleague.org with first name, last name, email for anyone who needs to be background checked and added as an approved volunteer and we will send them the Background Questionnaire.
The State of California, via Assembly Bill 506, requires Live Scan fingerprint-based background checks for volunteers who are 18 years of age or older and are administrators of a youth sports organization (e.g. board members) and/or who spend 16 or more hours per month or 32 hours per year in direct contact with or supervision of children (this would include managers and coaches). Live Scan does NOT need to be repeated annually.

SMLL plans to host a Live Scan event each season for new volunteers to be scanned. Live scans can also be obtained by visiting a Live Scan provider such as AD Live Scan. Volunteers with need a government issued ID and an SMLL Live Scan Form with the "Applicant Information" completed .

Required Training for Managers and Coaches

DISTRICT 33 SKILLS & SAFETY CLINICS:
Each coach also needs to attend the District 33 Skills & Safety Clinics at least once every 3 years (usually held in-person on the same day). One coach on each team needs to attend in the current year.

Abuse Awareness for Adults (usabdevelops.com) (2024 Update: Required Annually for ALL Volunteers)
Concussion Training (Required Once)

Sudden Cardiac Arrest Prevention Training (Required Once)
Little League Diamond Leader Training Program (NEW in 2024 - Required Once)

For these 4 online trainings, please send an email to volunteers@serramesalittleleague.org with electronic copies of your completion certificates (All certificates in ONE email would be amazing!) We will save them online for electronic access on the field and in future seasons.
