Background Checks
All volunteers must complete both of the following background check requirements:
Annual Little League Background Check (JDP):
All Little League volunteers, including administrators, coaches, umpires, and league volunteers
(concessions, team parent, etc.), must complete an annual background check as required by Little League International’s Child Protection Policy.
Serra Mesa Little League uses J.D. Palatine (JDP) for these background checks. These must be completed each Spring season
and will carry through to Fall for volunteers who continue.
To initiate a background check, please email
[email protected]
with the volunteer’s first name, last name, and email address. A background check questionnaire will be sent.
California Live Scan (AB 506):
California law (AB 506) requires Live Scan fingerprint-based background checks for volunteers who are 18 years or older
and either serve as administrators (e.g., board members) or spend 16 or more hours per month or 32 or more hours per year
in direct contact with or supervision of children (including managers and coaches).
Live Scan is a one-time requirement and does not need to be repeated annually.
Serra Mesa Little League plans to host a Live Scan event each season for new volunteers. Live Scan can also be completed
through a provider such as AD Live Scan.
Volunteers will need a government-issued ID and an SMLL Live Scan form with the "Applicant Information" section completed.
